Manners maketh the man.
Same with stopping for other motors and no form of gratitude.

I often do this.
Got a snarl from a women at Middlesex University, which I interpreted as "patronising sexist bastard".
But I do it for blokes too.

Come to Asia then and ENJOY
If someone does that to me I say "THANK YOU" like when you are teaching a 3 year old manners

Yeah I don't mean necessarily stopping and holding the door open - but just the passing, holding your arm out to keep a door open.
And nothing, I've done the shouting 'your welcome' thing a few times, gets em usually.

the latest one is birds or house husbands with pushchairs on public transport who think it's too much trouble to say thanks or even acknowledge you when you show courtesy and let them go first, pass you or you offer to help them with the chair. utter fucking cunts

Do the "THANK YOU!!!!" and they either snap out of it and say thanks or in Asia the more autistic types shrug and cower, wth a "Dont Look at me" kind of posture

Yep, cunts. Particularly hot birds who assume you're doing it because they're hot. No sweetheart, it's because my mum taught me manners.

It's never been an Asian thing to hold doors open for each other etc. and so not something people are taught as kids. I still do it but it generally leads to major confusion as to 'why are you doing that?'.
Such common courtesies seem, however, to have gradually disappeared in the UK. I can only assume kids are not taught to be polite any more.

Generally speaking, I don't expect anyone to hold a door open for me, particuarly not in Asia. As Monk says, it's not a done thing here, they are not being deliberately rude. It's like when they never say thank to the waiter for bringing them their food, it's just not a custom. It doesn't bother me in the slightest.

The best ones are when you hold the door and they are still a mile away but that feel obliged to sprint towards the door.

Wouldn't hurt them to learn a few manners PD, I believe half of them are ignorant because they were never taught. A whole society with fuck all manners , unless of course you point your foot at someone or heaven forbid touch them on the head. One is based on civility the other on mumbo jumbo and myth

67 - Yea I know mate, but as I say it doesn't bother me with that, but some other things do of course piss me off that I l can't list now as I am orf out.
Btw, they are not ALL lacking manners, that isn't a fair thing to say at all and is just another sweeping statement. Laters.

The thing I've noticed about Chinese people is that when you're approaching them on the footpath, and the done thing would be for both people to walk slightly wider to avoid bumping into one another, they seem to expect the non-Chinese person to be the only one to give way.

Ron. mainland kitchens aer different to all the others , The Malaysian, Hong kong , Singaporean , Taiwanese Chinese are still slightly eccentric but not generally ignorant. Unfortunately the PRC population had the pleasure of Mao's teachings

I've noticed that when you walk through a door that you have to push that the convention of taking a quick look behind you to avoid just letting it swing back in the face of someone who is close behind you is almost entirely a MALE thing.
